In the spring of 1961, Stanley Milgram, a young assistant professor at Yale, performed a simple experiment. The result shocked the world. He showed that most people could be persuaded – very quickly and very easily – to commit murder. Milgram was part of a new breed of psychologists. People who found exciting and innovative ways of investigating the mysteries of the most complex of all animals – the human being.
